While national in scope, the National Gender and Equity Campaign selected California and Minnesota as its two pilot states to serve as replicable models. Committed to long-term systemic change, the NGEC utilizes three interlocking investment strategies that are culturally relevant and community-based: Capacity Building, Philanthropic Partnerships, and Strategic Grantmaking.
The long term goal of NGEC is to create a movement building capacity building resource called Building Responsive Infrastructure to Develop Global Equity (BRIDGE). BRIDGE will be focused on building community organizations’ capacity to engage their grassroots constituents to advance social change. BRIDGE aims to increase the capacity, leadership, and competencies of organizations in four areas: grassroots community organizing, leadership development, media/communications and policy/advocacy with an emphasis on utilizing a gender and equity framework.
Together with AAPIP, the NGEC will engage philanthropic institutions on regional and national levels to deepen their knowledge of AAPI communities through shared learning opportunities and creation of partnerships in order to increase resources to match the needs and growth of AAPI populations. We will also work alongside AAPIP’s Community Philanthropy effort which is developing giving circles across the country to increase, stimulate, and facilitate giving by AAPI individuals for the AAPI community.
For national- and regional-based philanthropic institutions, we hope to engage in partnership strategies based on a shared vision for creating diversity within our democracy and innovative approaches to effect lasting social change.
Through the Organizational Fellowship Program, the NGEC will award multi-year general operating support to social justice AAPI organizations in California and Minnesota to build their capacity to advance social change. Opportunity investments will be made in areas outside the two pilot states where there are organizations engaged in innovative approaches that can strengthen this national effort.
